What is Program Management Professional (PgMP)?

The Program Management Professional (PgMP) certification acknowledges advanced experience, skill, and achievement in the overlooking of multiple, related projects, and their sources followed with an organizational objective. Program Management Professional (PgMP) certification possessors supervise the progress of a program — a way to group multiple, associated projects to obtain benefits that may not be received if the projects were managed in a stand-alone fashion.

Who should take the Program Management Professional (PgMP) exam?

If you have the proven ability to manage multiple, related projects and navigate complex activities that span functions, organizations, regions, or cultures and to align results with organizational goals, then you’re a potential PgMP.

How many questions are there in the Program Management Professional (PgMP) exam?

There are 170 questions in the exam.

What is the format of the Program Management Professional (PgMP) exam?

The PgMP exam is available in the form of multiple-choice questions. 

How many hours will be given to the candidate to complete the exam?

The candidate will be given 4 hours to complete the exam. 

What is the fee for the Program Management Professional (PgMP) examination?

The examination fee for Members of PMI is US$405.00 and Non-members are US$555.00.

What are the requirements for the Program Management Professional (PgMP) exam?

The requirements for the PgMP exam are:

  • Secondary degree (high school diploma, associate’s degree or the global equivalent)
  • 48 months of project management experience OR PMP 
  • 84 months of program management experience within  the last 15 years

OR

  • Four-year degree
  • 48 months of project management experience OR PMP
  • 48 months of program management experience within the last 15 years

How do I earn a PMI certification?

To obtain a PMI certification, the candidate must meet the eligibility requirements outlined on these web pages and detailed in the certification handbooks. Then, the candidate must pass an exam.

How do I schedule a certification exam appointment?

Once you are available, PMI will e-mail you examination scheduling instructions with your eligibility code, which you will need when scheduling your exam appointment at a testing center.

Where will the examination be given?

All PMI exams are offered at approved Pearson VUE Testing Centers worldwide. You can check for locations on Pearson VUE’s website.

Are the exams available in languages other than English?

The PMP, CAPM, and PMI-ACP exams are translated into multiple languages. Please consult the respective certification handbooks for details on specific languages available. 

How can I prepare for the Program Management Professional (PgMP) Exam?

The candidate can prepare for the Program Management Professional (PgMP) Exam by some steps such as visiting the official site, learning and understanding the objectives, books and guides, practice test, training programs, etc.

If I fail the exam, can I take it again?

If the candidate fails the exam on the first attempt, the candidate can re-take it two more times within a one-year eligibility period. Fees are associated with re-examination. Details for re-examination can be found in the certification handbook.

Do I have to be a member to apply for a PMI certification?

No. PMI membership is separate from PMI certifications. However, as a PMI member, the candidate will have access to many benefits including discounts on your certification exam fee as well as discounts on professional development opportunities to help with the maintenance of certification(s).

How long is my membership cycle?

PMI membership is for one year from the date of your membership activation. You can renew your membership as early as 90 days from your expiration date. You can find your membership status in your PMI profile on PMI.org.

I paid for my certification renewal, did my membership renew as well?

No. There are separate fees and separate processes to renew your membership or your certification. Membership is on a one-year cycle and your certification renewal is on a three-year cycle.

What happens if I do not renew my membership on time?

If you do not renew your membership by your expiration date your membership expires and you will no longer have access to your membership benefits, such as the discounts on certification, member-only webinars, additional PDU opportunities, or maintain your chapter membership.

Where can I go to renew my membership?

Log on to PMI.org and go to your myPMI profile. From there, you can access your dashboard to renew your PMI and chapter membership(s). While in your myPMI profile, please make sure all shipping and billing address fields are completed and your saved payment method is current.

What are the payment methods accepted by PMI?

Payments are made in U.S. dollars via credit card, check, or bank transfer. PMI accepts Visa, MasterCard, American Express, Diners Club, and Discover.
