Common Data Model (CDM) constitutes a set of standardized, extensible data schemas published by Microsoft and its partners. Such that this collection of predefined schemas consists of entities, attributes, semantic metadata, and relationships. Moreover, the schemas display commonly used concepts and activities, including Account and Campaign, for simplifying the creation, aggregation, and analysis of data.

It is really expensive and time-consuming task to bring data from multiple systems and applications. So, without being able to share and understand the same data easily, each application or data integration project requires a custom implementation. In the same vein, the Common Data Model simplifies this by offering a shared data language for business and analytical applications to use.

Benefits of Common Data Model (CDM)

Since the Common Data Model helps to simplify data management and app development by unifying data into a known form and applying structural and semantic consistency across multiple apps and deployments. We shall now list some of the benefits include –

  • Firstly, the Common Data Model offers structural and semantic consistency across applications and deployments.
  • Secondly, it offers simplified integration and disambiguation of data collected from processes, digital interactions, product telemetry, people interactions, and more.
  • Also, it offers a unified shape, such that data integrations combine existing enterprise data with other sources to use that data holistically to develop apps or derive insights.
  • Next, it offers the ability to extend the schema and Common Data Model standard entities to tailor the model to the organization.
