Labourer Card – CSCS
Eligibility and Requirement for Labourer Card
Candidates have to apply for the Labourer card only –
- If the applicant have completed the QCF Level 1/SCQF Level 4 Award in Health and Safety in a Construction Environment
- SCQF Level 5 REHIS Elementary Health and Safety Certificate.
- If they have passed the CITB Health, safety and environment test within the last 2 years.
It is a lifetime qualification that only needs to be completed once and will be accepted in 5 years’ time when renewing the card.
Alternative Qualifications for Labourer Card
CSCS also accepts alternative courses to the Level 1 Award/SCQF Level 4 Award and SCQF Level 5. Providers and employers that provide training that meets the same standards as the Level 1 Award in Health and Safety in a Construction Environment can have their courses evaluated as an alternative course.
Note: Alternatives to the Level 1 Award/SCQF Level 4 Award and SCQF Level 5 may not be lifetime qualifications. This might mean that the student will need to take a refresher course every 3-5 years before their Labourer card can renew.
Summarizing Construction Skills Certification Scheme
The Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS) is one of the most used skills certification schemes in the UK construction sector. The CSCS cards serve as verification that those working on construction sites have received the necessary training and credentials for the job.
CSCS assists in maintaining a database of construction workers who have earned or are working toward earning a recognized construction-related certification. Construction Skills CSCS card is not a legal necessity; whether or not workers are necessary to have a card before being getting access on site is up to the major contractor or client. However, most big contractors and home builders insist that all construction employees on their sites have a valid CSCS card.
