The Business Analysis Competency Model focuses on describing the knowledge, skills, abilities, and attributes required for an individual to perform effectively as a business analysis professional. In general, can also be described as a skills assessment tool and a professional development guide. The BABOK® Guide describes the knowledge required to perform business analysis, whereas the Competency Model addresses the remaining aspects of competency including –

  • Firstly, identifying 53 Business Analysis performance competencies with behavioural indicators and techniques associated with each level of business analysis performed
  • Secondly, help in understanding the levels of competency in the business analysis profession together with mapping the performance competencies and job profiles to the prescribed techniques, tasks, and underlying competencies
  • Also, help in evaluating current levels against standard levels of performance to understand proficiency levels
  • Lastly, listing business analysis career: context, roles, job profiles, career paths, generalist, advanced, specialty and hybrid roles.

This comprehensive model is based on research in organizations of various sizes and industries around the globe. Moreover, the Competency Model is subject to IIBA member use only and a corporate license is needed to use the Competency Model in a corporate setting.
