RDS Networking

2 EC2 types to host RDS DB instances,
- EC2-VPC
- EC2-Classic
Amazon VPC can launch RDS DB instances, into a VPC
VPC, gives control on
- networking environment
  - selecting IP address range
  - create subnets
  - configure routing
  - configure ACLS
RDS DB instance has following functions whether in or out of VPC
- manages backups
- software patching
- failure detection
- recovery
no extra charge for DB instance in VPC
EC2-VPC, has default VPC.
- DB instances are created in the default VPC
For EC2-Classic has no default VPC.
