What is the ACSM Certified Personal Trainers® (ACSM-CPT®) exam?

Passing the ACSM Certified Personal Trainers® (ACSM-CPT®) exam and becoming an ACSM-CPT means that the candidate will have the practical and scientific knowledge to work in a variety of fitness facilities, including health clubs, gyms, university, corporate, and community or public fitness centers, and positions ranging from freelance personal training to full-time and beyond.

How much time will be given to the candidate to complete the ACSM Certified Personal Trainers® (ACSM-CPT®) exam?

The candidate will be given 165 minutes to complete the exam.

What are the learning domains for the ACSM Certified Personal Trainers® exam?

The learning domains are:

  • Initial Client Consultation and Assessment 25%
  • Exercise Programming and Implementation 45%
  • Exercise Leadership & Client Education 20%
  • Legal & Professional Responsibilities 10%

What are the prerequisites for the (ACSM-CPT®) exam?

This exam is designed for candidates with a high school diploma or GED at minimum, works primarily with apparently healthy individuals to enhance fitness. Candidates should also have Adult CPR/AED Certification with practical hands-on skills component.

  • 18 Years of Age or Older
  • High School Diploma or the Equivalent
  • Adult CPR/AED Certification

What is the fee criteria for the ACSM exam?

The cost of the ACSM-CPT® is for ACSM Member is $279 and for the ACSM Non-Member is $349. The fee for a retake ACSM exam is $175.

How can I register my exam?

For registering yourself for the ACSM Certified Personal Trainers® (ACSM-CPT®) follow the following steps:

  • Go to the Pearson VUE website.
  • Choose your certification name
  • Follow the prompt and complete the registration
  • Make the payment and receive a confirmation for the examination.

What is the ACSM exam reschedule policy?

Candidates who want to reschedule their exam must contact Pearson VUE one business day prior to the exam appointment. Candidates will be charged $35.00* (USD) each time an exam is rescheduled. Candidates who reschedule an exam less than one business day in advance, or fail to appear for the exam, will forfeit their exam fee. Candidates who fail to arrive within 15 minutes of the scheduled start time are considered a No-Show and will forfeit their exam fees.

How long is the ACSM certification valid?

ACSM certifications are valid for 3 years.

What is the need for recertification in ACSM?

Renewing ACSM certification means that you are staying current with industry standards and allowing you to continue practicing in the profession. Going through the ACSM recertification process once every three years means that you don’t have to retake the exam. Renewing is quick and easy.

What if I want to cancel my ACSM exam?

Candidates who wish to cancel their exam must contact Pearson VUE one business day prior to their exam appointment. Candidates will be charged a $75.00* (USD) cancellation fee. Candidate’s who cancel an exam less than one business day in advance or fail to appear for the exam, will forfeit their exam fee.
