What is WatchGuard Fireware Essentials Certification?
The Fireware Essentials exam tests your knowledge of how to configure, manage, and monitor a WatchGuard Firebox. This exam is appropriate for network administrators who have experience configuring and managing Firebox devices that run Fireware v12.2.1.
What technical certifications does WatchGuard offer?
WatchGuard offers three technical certification exams:
- Network Security Essentials – This exam covers the content previously covered in Fireware Essentials, but also includes content on basic networking and new Fireware topics, including multi-WAN, VLANs, and more.
- Secure Wi-Fi Essentials – This exam covers basic wireless technology and Wi-Fi Cloud, as well as Fireware Gateway Wireless Controller and Wireless Firebox devices.
- Multi-Factor Authentication Essentials – This exam covers basic authentication technology concepts and how to set up, configure, and manage WatchGuard AuthPoint.
How many questions are there in the exam?
There are a total of 60 questions in the exam.
What is the total time duration for the exam?
You are given a total time duration of 2 hours to compleet the exam.
What is the passing score for the exam?
The passing score is 75%.
What are the type of questions in the exam?
The types of questions asked in the exam are-
- Firstly, Multiple Choice
- Secondly, Multiple Selection
- Then, True or False
- Also, Matching Questions
What are the Prerequisites for the exam?
WatchGuard does not specify any prerequisite for the exam. Although, its recommended to complete the Fireware Essentials instructor-led course for better performance in the exam.
What are the modes available for the exam
This exam is a proctored one. There are two options for the test environment. You can choose either of them, whichever suits you the best. The testing options are:
- Firstly, Kryterion testing center
- Secondly, Online, with virtual proctoring through an approved webcam
What are the course domains covered in the exam?

How much does the exam cost?
The exam fee is $200 USD.
What do I need to bring with me when I take a certification exam at a Kryterion testing center?
Candidates are required to get two (2) types of personal identification (ID). Both these IDs should have your signature, and either or both the IDs should have your photo. Valid types of identification include –
- Current driver’s license
- Current passport
- Or any equivalent ID
Can I use reference materials during a certification exam?
No you are not allowed to carry any reference material or study aids while taking the exam.
How long will my certification be valid?
WatchGuard Certifications are valid only for a period of two years.
If I fail the exam, can I retake it?
On failing the exam, WatchGuard offers you to retake your exam. You will have to pay a one-time retake fee of $100. However, other subsequent retake attempts will cost you $200.
When will I get my exam results?
You will get your exam results right after you complete the exam, on the screen. The result will also be emailed to you. On passing the exam the email message sent to you will also include a date-stamped certificate for your records.
What do I need to do if I have to cancel or reschedule my exam appointment?
The exam reschedule or cancel policy varies depending on the exam you are taking
- Online Proctored Exams: Up to the start time of the exam, without any additional cost
- Exams at Kryterion Test Centers: At least 72 hours before the exam start time. Otherwise, additional fees will be incurred
What is the refund policy?
All refunds are granted by Kryterion. However, refunds are offered only when you cancel your exam with 72 hours’ notice.
