3. How many tests are required to achieve certification?

  • Linux Essentials – one exam
  • LPIC-1 – two exams, 101 and 102
  • LPIC-2 – two exams, 201 and 202
  • LPIC-3 – one specialty exam, 300 or 303 or 304
  • DevOps Tools Engineer – one exam, 701 (+LPIC-1 or OS equivalent recommended)
  • BSD Specialist – one exam, 702

4. Does it matter which version of the exams I write?

No, you are free to take any version of the exam. Whenever LPI releases a new version of any exam, then the previous version remains available for a maximum of 6 months. This is to allow candidates to take the version that they have prepared for.

5. How much do LPI exams cost?

The Linux Essentials exam price is $120 USD. And all the other LPIC exam fee is $200 USD each. This price varies depending upon the region and currency exchange rates.

6. Where can I take the exams?

LPI certification exams are offered in-person, worldwide at Pearson VUE testing centers. Visit Pearson VUE to locate the nearest testing centers.

7. How long are the exams?

The Essentials exams contains 40 questions with a time duration of 60 minutes. All the other exams contain 60 questions having a time limit of 90 minutes.

8. How are the LPIC test scores computed?

The exam weights for all the LPIC exams are standardized to 60 weights. Every LPI certification exam ranks on a scale from 200 to 800, having a passing score of 500.

9. What is the platform LPI uses for online exams?

LPI uses the Pearson VUE’s OnVUE testing platform.

10. What are the technical and logistical requirements for writing an OnVUE online exam?

Yes, exam pricing shall remain to be the same. Purchasing a voucher will help you schedule your online test with OnVUE.

13. When will I get my results?

After completing your exam, you will immediately receive your results and a score report. Within 24 hours, Pearson VUE will then transfer your exam results to LPI, post which your certification will be issued by LPI.
