The Practice of General Insurance – IC 11 exam is one of the three exams required to pass for eligibility to give the Licentiate Exam by the Insurance Institute of India-

  • Principles of Insurance (IC 01)
  • Practice of General Insurance (IC 11)
  • Regulation of Insurance Business (IC 14)

The IC-11 exam mainly focuses on studying the market including domestic and international both. Also, it deals with a primary focus on documenting, processes, individual classes of business, underwriting, rating, claims, and insurance accounting.

Qualification required

  • The candidate must have the minimum qualification of pre-university or an equivalent exam by any recognized board or institute, where the candidate resides in a place having population of 5000 or above according to the last census.
  • Have passed the 10th standard pr any equivalent exam from a recognized institute/board.
  • The candidates are required to complete training from an IRDA authorized institution with a minimum of 50 hours practical training in general insurance business which may take a duration of 3-5 weeks. In case of renewal of the license the candidate will have to undergo training of 25 hours.

IC-11 Exam Details

IC-11 exam details

The practice of General Insurance – IC 11 Exam comprises a total of 100 questions. All the questions are either multiple-choice or multiple-response questions in which the candidates have to choose from a list of possible answers. The exam duration is 120 minutes. The registration fee is Rs 250 and the examination fee is Rs 300. This exam is conducted in the English language. The candidates need to score 60% or more in order to pass the exam successfully. The IC-11 certification has a validity period of 5 years after which the candidates will have to renew their certification. Also, there is no negative marking system for this exam. Also, this exam is conducted only in an online mode at the test centers selected.

Cancellation Policy

If the candidate wants to cancel their IC-11 exam, they have to send an application for withdrawal to the Insurance Institute of India’s office, Mumbai before the prescribed date provided in the “Calendar of Important Dates”. Keep in mind that the cancellation can only be done through III and not via any associated institute/affiliated institute/ALCs. IC-11 FAQs

Enroll for the IC-11 Exam

  • Go the official website of III and create an account through the IRDAI portal if you don’t already have an account.
  • A unique reference number is created for every candidate when you register for the exam.
  • Select the preferred exam date among the dates provided by the III.
  • Fill in all the details correctly as asked in the application form.
  • Read all the instructions carefully and make the payment.

Exam Guidelines for IC-11

1. Candidates should have any one of the following original photo identity proofs specified by the Regulatory Body-

  • PAN Card
  • Passport
  • Driving License
  • Election ID Card
  • Bank passbook including photo
  • Credit or Debit Card including Photograph
  • College ID, if any

2. The candidates will be only allowed a pen and a calculator.

3. No personal belonging is allowed in the exam hall including mobile phones.

4. Candidates are only allowed to use a mouse. There is no use of the keyboard in the exam, hence should not be used by candidates for any purpose.

5. The candidates will be provided with 10 minutes grace time if there is an internet or a power issue.

Renewing the License

If a candidate wants to renew the license, they are required to make an application to the designated person in Form IRDA-Agents-VA.

Fill up all the details and on receiving the application form, your license will be renewed on the basis of the following conditions-

  • Completed 25 hours of practical training
  • Successfully passed the IC-11 exam conducted by the Insurance Institute of India or other examination bodies.

The candidates renewing the license will be required to pay Rs 250 as the renewal fee which will be valid for a period of five years.
