What are the eligibility criteria for the Certified Treasury Professional (AFP) exam?

A minimum of two years of full-time work experience in a career-based corporate cash/treasury management or corporate finance-related role is required to sit for the CTP test. Internships, vacation/holiday work, and volunteer work do not count toward the full-time experience requirement. The application deadline, not the start of the testing window, is when the candidates meet the experience criteria. Applicants that submit an application before meeting the academic and/or experience requirements will be ruled ineligible.

What is the fee criteria for AFP?

AFP members pay a fee of $875 for the exam if they register early. The cost jumps by an extra $100 if they register during the final deadline period. Non-members may also apply for the exam but the fees are higher—$1,270 for early registration and $1,370 by the final deadline.

Do I need to be a member to register for the AFP exam? 

Before registering for the exam, you do not need to be an AFP member. Non-members, on the other hand, must pay the non-member charge for the exam. The non-member pricing includes a non-member difference that is used toward a calendar-year AFP membership.

What are the advantages of the Exam Prep Platform over the essentials textbook?

The CTP Exam Prep Platform is online software that allows users to evaluate their exam material understanding. Users may access approximately 900 exam-grade questions through 20 hours of video, knowledge checks, practice tests, and flashcards, which imitate the CTP examination environment. EPP users may also keep track of their progress and receive criticism when they answer questions wrong.

I passed the exam, when will I receive my certificate?

Newly CTPs certification holders will get an email from our credential partner, The Award Group, about 4-5 weeks after completing the exam. You will be able to validate your postal address as well as the accuracy of the information on your certificate. After you’ve validated the information, certificates will arrive in the mail in around 6-8 weeks. When the certificate arrives, you will be notified by email.

I took the exam and did not pass. How do I re-register?

You can re-register for an upcoming testing window by submitting a Re-Registration Form and remitting the $250 re-registration fee.  From the date of application, exam registrations are valid for three years or six testing periods. You are eligible for Re-Registration if you are within three years or six testing windows of your initial application. Otherwise, please start over and fill out a new application, which may be found in the Certification Candidate Handbook.

Can I take the exam more than once in a testing window?

No. Exam candidates are allowed to take the exam only once during their scheduled testing window. To retake the exam, you have to submit a Re-Registration Form for the next testing window. This is a security policy and there are no exceptions to this policy.

How many times can I retake the exam? 

AFP does not limit the number of times an exam candidate can retake the exam.

Can I schedule a testing appointment directly with AFP?

No. Testing appointments can only be made through PearsonVUE, either by phone or through their Web site.

What is the passing score for the exam?

The test has a scale score. Each question is worth one point in this scenario. Your raw result converts to a scale score using a statistical method, allowing all examinees to judge on an equal footing while taking different variants of the test. Most certification organizations that provide numerous test formats employ a scoring system called scalability. As a result, we are unable to provide a precise number or percentage of questions that must answer properly in order to pass the exam. Because there is no penalty for erroneous responses, we encourage you do your hardest to answer each question correctly.

How long is my certification valid for before I have to recertify?

Certification is valid for three years.
