The Certified Function Point Specialist (CFPS) designations are formal recognition of a level of expertise in the area of Function Point Analysis. A CFPS is acknowledged as having the skills necessary to perform consistent and accurate function point counts and comprehension of the most recent counting practices.
Prerequisite for the exam
There is no prerequisite of higher education, evidence of experience with Function Point Analysis (FPA) or attendance of any course to attempt the certification. The only prerequisite to take the CFPS exam is to be affiliated with the IFPUG.
Exam Structure
The Certification Exam is composed of three sections: Definition, Implementation, and Case Study.
- The Definition section consists of 50 multiple-choice questions. The Definition section specifically tests the individual’s knowledge of definitions and rules.
- The Implementation section consists of 50 multiple-choice questions. The Implementation section indirectly tests the individual’s knowledge of definitions and rules and directly tests the individual’s ability to apply the definitions and rules through small story problems.
- The Case Study section consists of ten cases totalling 50 marks The Case Study section directly tests the individual’s ability to apply the definitions and rules of the CPM using varying case topics.
